Waste Management Legislation 2011
Disposing of waste can be a complicated process for businesses, particularly since the Waste Management Regulations 2011 came into effect. “Reduce – reuse – recycle” has become a familiar saying for the waste industry, but now the EU has created a new hierarchy which is more complex and certainly less catchy – “prevention, preparation for reuse, recycling, other recovery and disposal”.
Actions to Reduce the Environmental Impact of Waste
This means that all businesses and organisations in the UK have a legal obligation to think carefully about all waste that they produce, and take steps in the Hierarchy to reduce their environmental impact.
- Prevention
- Preparation for Reuse
- Recycling
- Other Recovery
- Disposal
